HAPPY

DAY

Happy Day is a project that came out of a silly day and a silly joke, but has permeated my life in the everyday. This past summer, I was on a river float with a pile of friends, having a perfect and silly summer day, when a child started to scream “happy day” at our floatilla from the beach. We screamed it back and forth to one another for 20 minutes while we floated by. It was just so simply ridiculous and charming and fun.

Historically, I have been a bit of a cynic, and since that happy day I have been finding little happy day moments and things in the everyday that are undeniably charming and silly reminders of lightness. I see little smiley faces in nature, in food, and I notice the word ‘happy’ everywhere now. For example:

Through these small amusements, especially now that I really look for them, I have access to these little happy moments throughout my days and weeks. I know the world can be a dark place and we all struggle with something unique. My aim with Happy Day is for us to seek out these small amusements and practice finding these small happy things every day, as well as share them with each other. Every Happy Day item has a small happy face as a little reminder that there can be small happies among the big sad.

I will be offering Happy Day memberships, which contain an address to a  PO Box, where you can send a momento, photo, or description of a small amusement you have found, and in return, you will receive a different small amusement from another member. :)

Happy Day will be an ongoing project.
